Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has issued a bold directive to the Black Stars technical team: approach upcoming friendlies with a winning mentality, not just as trials for the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking exclusively to Graphic Sports, the Buem MP emphasized that Coach Otto Addo and his staff must prioritize victories in these crucial prep matches.
The senior national team kicks off their international friendlies against Austria on Friday, March 27, at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium, followed by a clash with Germany on Monday, March 30, in Stuttgart. These games form a key part of Ghana’s build-up to the World Cup this summer, testing the squad’s mettle against top European opposition.
“I’ve told the coaches that these two friendlies, we are going with the mindset of winning, not just going to try players,” Adams declared, signaling no room for experimentation at the expense of results. The directive underscores the urgency to build momentum and confidence ahead of the global showpiece.
Camp opened on Sunday with the first training session on Monday, featuring 21 players, including recent addition Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer. Stragglers Alexander Djiku and Kojo Oppong Peprah are due Wednesday, bolstering the squad as they fine-tune tactics under Addo’s watchful eye.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars face Mexico and Wales in May and June for final World Cup tune-ups. With Adams’ rallying cry, Ghanaian fans can expect a fired-up side ready to claim scalps and prove their credentials on the road to glory.
