A Security Analyst, Adib Saani, says the tension, between South Africans and other African Migrants in that country is a global phenomenon that needs to be addressed.

He expressed concern about the situations where politicians feed into the frustrations of the people instead of resolving issues.

Mr. Saani was speaking on GBC’s current Affairs programme, ‘Talking Point’, which discussed the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

A Senior Lecturer, Centre for Conflicts, Human Rights and Peace Studies, Dr. Vincent Mensah, debunked widespread notions that the xenophobic attacks in South Africa are justified by the assertion that foreigners are taking over the jobs of the natives.

Dr. Mensah said such an assertion is a propaganda message from politicians aimed at diverting the blame of economic hardships onto foreigners rather than the leaders themselves.

He said politicians in Africa must live up to their responsibilities and stop fuelling hatred and violence among the local people on the continent.

For his part, Governance Practitioner, Joseph Gyampo, challenged the South African government to look into the root cause of citizen agitations.
