A seven-day Preventive Mass Vaccination campaign is to be carried out in 65 districts in all the regions excluding the Upper West.

The exercise which begins Wednesday November 28, will cater for people aged ten to 60 years except pregnant women.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, the acting Director of Health Services for Bodi District, Rebecca Amoo, said the exercise is taking place in five districts in the Western Region namely Juaboso, Amenfi Central, Bodi and Amenfi East and West.

According to her, about 43,233 representing 65 percent of the total population of 66,513 have been targeted for the vaccination in the district. Miss Amoo said training programmes are being organised for the health personnel including volunteers in the district to prepare them, while education is also given to the public to patronise it to help prevent Yellow Fever.

She noted that though no outbreak has been recorded in the district for the past decade, it is good for safety reasons.

Miss Amoo emphasised that the vaccines are safe and appealed to all those in the age bracket to embrace it since government has sunk huge sums of money into it.

The exercise dubbed “Get Vaccinated: One Slot Against Yellow Fever,” is jointly being carried out by the Ghana Health Services and Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation GAVI.
