Youth Coalition in Northern region embark on road safety education

Some Youth Coalition in the Northern region have embarked on road safety campaign to sensitize road users to the urgent need to obey road traffic regulations and ensure safety.

The Youth Coalition for the Promotion of Sustainable Development Goals on Monday took to the principal streets of Tamale to educate and share brochures and stickers on road safety tips to drivers, motorists, tricycle riders, pedestrians and the public.

The exercise was in collaboration with the National Road Safety Commission, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, National Youth Authority and supported by UNICEF Ghana.

Indiscipline on the roads is increasing by the day particularly in Tamale, the Northern Regional Capital.

Traffic offences are rampant among the people and some show complete disregard to the traffic regulations even in the presence of police personnel.

The call for the use of helmet is not heeded by motorists and the reckless riding of tricycle riders is nothing good to write home.

It is against this background that the Youth Coalition for the Promotion of SDGs in Northern Ghana embarked on the campaign to create awareness and educate road users on the need to respect road signs and regulations.

He advised motorists to ensure they wear their crush helmet.

The Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed was equally not happy about the indiscipline on the roads and how the youth are engaged in reckless riding and driving.

He charged religious leaders to use their mediums to educate their people about the need to obey traffic rules.
