2026 World Cup qualifiers: Ghana gets tricky opponents

During the 45th CAF Ordinary Congress held in Ivory Coast on July 13, Ghana have been drawn in Group I for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars will face tough competition from Mali, Madagascar, Central African Republic, Chad, and Comoros.

With Africa allocated nine slots, the group’s top team will secure automatic qualification for the prestigious tournament.

Additionally, the four best runners-up from the groups will participate in a CAF Play-Off tournament, with the winner advancing to the FIFA Play-Off tournament for a chance at securing a spot in the World Cup.

Ghana’s qualification campaign will kick off in November 2023, with the final round of matches scheduled for 2025.

The nation, having participated in four previous World Cup tournaments, aims to secure its fifth appearance at the global sporting event.

Group A: Egypt, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Djibouti

Group B: Senegal, Congo DR, Mauritania, Togo, Sudan, South Sudan

Group C: Nigeria, South Africa, Benin, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Lesotho

Group D: Cameroon, Cape Verde, Angola, Libya, Swaziland, Mauritius

Group E: Morocco, Zambia, Congo, Tanzania, Niger, Eritrea
