African Games: Black Princesses to take on Nigeria in an epic final

By: Nana Kwame Bediako

The Black Princesses on Monday, March 18, 2024, defeated Senegal’s under-20 women’s team by a whopping 3-1 victory at the Cape Coast Stadium to secure a spot in the finals of the African Games female football event.

Ghana were utterly dominant in their last group game, where they saw off Tanzania, who in that game scored first to put the princesses under pressure, but the game grew out to favour Ghana as they claimed a victory to book a last-four spot.

Coming off this remarkable performance, Ghana did no wrong as they continued their dominance in the semi-final against Senegal as they took control of the game from the beginning of play, forcing the Senegalese to figure out the best way to prevent any possible upset.

The Black Princesses early dominance paid off as Tracey Twum found the back of the net in the 19th minute, handing Ghana a 1:0 lead. After going ahead, the Black Princesses didn’t look like slowing down, as they added a second in the 45th minute via a wonderful strike from Ophelia Amponsah.

Senegal scored from the spot in the 53rd minute to pull one back. The goal gave them some confidence to grab an equaliser before the game entered its final minutes, but Ghana had other plans as Ophelia Amponsah struck again to secure a 3:1 victory for her side.

Ghana will take on defending champions Nigeria in an epic showdown final at the Cape Coast Stadium on Thursday, March 21, 2024.
