Christmas wouldn’t have been complete for football fans across the globe without thrilling action from the arguably best league in the world, the English Premier League.

Jose Mourinho continuing his fine form of boxing-day victories led Tottenham Hotspur to a 2-1 victory at the Tottenham Stadium. Brighton took the lead after a Harry Kane goal was ruled offside by VAR. Elsewhere, Liverpool thrashed second-placed Leicester City 4-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to 13 points with a game in hand. Two goals from Firmino, a penalty from Milner  and a superb strike from Alexander Arnold capped a phenomenal display at the King Power Stadium.Image result for the premier league

Carlo Ancelotti saw Dominic Calvert-Lewin head Everton to a 1-0 win over Burnley in his first game in charge at Goodison Park, while Mikel Arteta had Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to thank for salvaging a 1-1 draw for Arsenal at Bournemouth.

Watford’s 1-1 draw at Sheffield United lifted them off the bottom of the table, with Norwich City now propping up the rest after going down 1-0 at Aston Villa.

Southampton beat Chelsea by 2 goals as Frank Lampard’s men were unable to build on their superb victory against Spurs last week. Goals from Michael Obafemi and Nathan sealed an impressive 3 points for Southampton.

Manchester City face Wolves later this evening as they seek to move to second place on the league table. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has won 99 of his 132 Premier League matches so far, victory over Wolves will see him break Jose Mourinho’s record for fewest number of games to reach 100 Premier League wins.
