CAL Bank Supper Cup: Shama beach soccer club wins W/region champs

Shama Beach Soccer Club has been crowned, champions of the Western regional version of the Cal Bank Super cup held in Abuesi in the Shama District following their impressive display in all their three matches.

Ghana Beach Soccer Association in conjunction with CAL Bank organized the tournament to serve as a platform for the technical handlers to select players for the national team.

Four teams engaged in a round-robin format with the top two teams advancing to the national festival which saw host Shama finishing the tournament with 9 points after winning all their matches and followed by Jomoro with 3 points and superior goal advantage over Ellembele.

President of Beach Soccer, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah expressed appreciation to sponsors- CAL Bank for their timely financial intervention to organize the Super Cup.

“The competition just started and we are grateful to CAL Bank for supporting us. We are very optimistic about the expected success story of the Super Cup and hopefully the coaches will help us select good players to form the fulcrum of the national team. Next event is in Cape Coast next week and the same organization is expected”.

Scintillating display of Gabriel Essilfie who plays for Shama and the eye for goals made him win the best player accolade and the top scorer award after hitting the back of the net 9 times.

The Event and Sponsorship Officer at CAL Bank, Peter Hall described the event as success as they look forward for the subsequent ones from the other regions.

“We are very excited to be part of this tournament. We love the atmosphere and we believe that supporting this king of lesser known sports we are actually setting the foundation for socio economic development. The local folks are very happy an as a bank we should be able to continue to support in pursuant of achieving this socio economic development”.

“Our expectations have been met and the energy here has set the tone for this tournament and it’s our expectation that other regions will emulate the enthusiasms from the indigenes here”.

The four team competition which featured beach soccer clubs from Jomoro, Ellembele, Nzema East and Shama is aimed at getting a regional representation for the final tournament in a yet to be announced venue and date.
