About 8:45am on Tuesday December 11, what started as a usual morning on GTV Sports+ morning show Studio 5 ended emotionally charged when Ghana athlete based in Holland Esther Dankwah shared her story on sexual abuse live on TV.
What happened?
She got sexually and emotionally abused when circumstances forced her to leave her parents home and stay with extended family that’s when her woes started. The young Esther at the time found solace on the track and would later represent Ghana at the international champions and win laurels.
Why is she speaking up now?
Forgiveness, courage, the will to live to empower young people to speak up about sexual abuse and stand up to be counted has led to the birth of the Esther Dankwah Foundation launched in Holland two weeks ago. Thankfully the Ghana version will be launched at the Kama Conference Center in Accra on Friday December 14.
