Fikayo Tomori signs a five-year contract extension with Chelsea

Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori has signed a new five-year contract with the club.  The England international had a good spell early this season, following his long season loan expiration at Derby County last season where he worked with his current manager Frank Lampard.  His first time at the club saw him named the club’s “Player of the Year”.

On his return to Chelsea, Tomori has been given the number 29 jersey. He made his debut for blues on August 31st 2019 against Sheffield United, which ended in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge. Fikayo Tomori scored his first goal for Chelsea in a 2-5 away victory over Wolves on September 14th, 2019.

His performance this season has also earned him a first England cap when he came on as a substitute against Kosovo in November.

As a result of Antonio Rudiger injury and David Luiz’s departure. Tomori has taken his chance under Lampard to fight for a spot in the starting line-up this season playing 11 matches out of 16 Premier League games.

“The club has been so good to me, looking after and developing me during that time into the player and the person I am today. It’s a dream come true to sign a new five-year contract.

“I’m really happy the club have shown this faith in me and I’m just excited to carry on.” This is what the defender said on the club’s website.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are very happy to see another fantastic young player come through from our Academy into the senior team.

“Fikayo has been with us since he was seven years old and has contributed to many Chelsea successes at youth level.

“Having enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Derby last season, Fikayo had a strong start to this campaign and we are enjoying seeing him grow into a key player for us. We are delighted he has committed to the club for the coming years.”
