The senior national cricket team jetted of the country on Thursday for Uganda to participate in the Africa final of the International Cricket Council T20 World Cup qualifier.
The weeklong competition which starts from May 19 to May 24, 2019 will see six countries including Nigeria, Botswana, Kenya, Namibia and host nation Uganda battling each other for a sole ticket as an associate member to represent Africa at the global world cup qualifiers.
Team Ghana, made up of 14 players and 4 officials, departed with the anticipation of making it to the next phase of the qualifiers and they open their campaign against West Africa neighbours Nigeria on Sunday, May 19 at the Kyambogo Cricket Oval then they meet Namibia on Monday at the Lugogo Stadium whilst squaring it off with Kenya on Tuesday before taking a rest on Wednesday.
Ghana continues the tournament with a battle with host nation Uganda on Thursday and wraps it all up against Botswana in the final game on Friday.
In the latest ICC Men’s T20I Global rankings released, Ghana is 28th, ahead of Nigeria (39), Botswana (30), Kenya (29) Uganda (35) but behind Namibia (20).
The single round robin tournament will see the group winner qualifying for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup qualifier in United Arab Emirates later this year.
