Ghana have been drawn to face two South African sides, Zimbabwe and South Africa, in Group G of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers draw.

The Black Stars of Ghana will be hoping to secure a return to the 2022 World Cup to be staged in Qatar after participating in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and missing the 2018 edition in Russia

The draw for the second round of African qualifying took place in Egypt’s capital Cairo 19:00 local time on Tuesday 21 January.

The 40 teams were  drawn into 10 groups of four, with only the winners of each group advancing to the next round which will feature five two-legged play-off ties. The five winners of these play-offs qualify for Qatar 2022.

The group stage begins in March 2020, during the first international break of the football calendar, and ends in October 2021.

Here are the full teams placed in Group A to Group J.

Group A has reigning CAF African Cup of Nation champions, Algeria, who missed out on the last edition of the FIFA world cup played in Russia, 2018. This time the Desert Foxes will be anxious to be part of this edition, same as goes for Ghana and Cameroon.

Tunisia in Group B, are likely group winners ahead of the teams paired with, whereas in Group C, Nigeria is seen as favorites as they set to book their place in 2022 world cup.

In Group D, Cote d’ivoire will be led by their highly rated duo strikers Nicolas Pepe, Africa’s most expensive player ever and Wilfried Zaha. Cameroon are also tipped as favorites with a bunch of qualities the team has over the past years winning the last two editions of Africa’s most prestigious award CAF Africa cup of Nations.

Black Stars of Ghana will seek a return to the World after participating in the 2014 World Cup Brazil which they missed 2018 edition in Russia. South Africa failed to qualify for both 2014 and 2018 World Cups only playing in 2010 World Cup as host nation. Both teams have been paired to face each other in Group G.

Mohammed Salah’s Egypt will have the idea of bouncing back from a disappointing World Cup campaign last two summer as their first ever appearance in many years ending on a bad note as they exited the competition in the group stage. Egypt and Gabon are both in Group F.
