Arsenal confirm departure of club captain Lacazette

Alexandre Lacazette will leave Arsenal when his contract expires at the end of June, the north London club have confirmed.

In a club statement issued on Friday, Arsenal Football Club stated Alexander Lacazette will be leaving the club at the end of his current contract, which runs until June 30, 2022.

Laca as he is called by many football fans and fanatics, now a 31-year-old, joined the club in the July 2017 transfer window period. He went on to make 206 appearances in all competitions and scored 71 goals which saw him join a league of club greats who have scored more goals in the Premier League history for Arsenal football club.

He was Arsenal’s top scorer in both 2017/18, and 2020/21 footballing seasons. Laca was an FA Cup winner in 2020, FA Community Shield winner in 2017, and was once voted Arsenals Player of the Season for 2018/19.

Club’s senior team Manager Mikel Arteta, had this to say about his departing captain: “Laca has been a fantastic player for us. He’s been a real leader on and off the pitch and has been a very important influence to our younger players. His commitment with us has been exceptional and we wish him and his family success and happiness.”

“A big thank you to Laca from everyone at Arsenal. He’s been really important for us. He will always be part of the Arsenal family and we wish him well for everything in the future,” Technical Director Edu, sent the clubs gratitude to their departing captain on behalf of the club.
