Matthijs de Ligt: Juventus sign defender from Ajax in £67.5m deal

19-year-old Dutch international defender Matthijs de Ligt has completed a £67.5m switch from Ajax to Italian champions Juventus.

The teen has been a sought-after player this window with interest from teams like Manchester United, Barcelona, Paris-St Germain and more but decided to join the Italian giants on a 5-year long deal.

During this period Juventus are tasked to complete the payment of the player which also come with an additional cost of 10.5m euros (£9m).

The player has been a rock in the Ajax set up for the past 2 seasons after rising through its youth ranks and could also boast of helping the Dutch team to winning the domestic league and cup double last season, as well as reaching a Europa League final in 2017 and the enviable privilege of been named club captain at a young age in March 2018.

He also helped Ajax to reach the Champions League semi-finals last season by overcoming power house teams like Real Madrid and Juventus which he scored the decider of that encounter against.

De Ligt has eight goals to his credit in 77 league appearances as a defender for his club. He made his debut for the Netherlands in March 2017, having started only two league games for Ajax.
