Porto striker Moussa Marega walked off the pitch midway through the second half of Sunday’s 2-1 win over Vitória Guimarães after being targeted by racist abuse from Vitória fans.

Marega clearly heard something from the home fans and attempted to leave the pitch in the 69th minute of the game. However, teammates and opponents both tried to convince him to stay, with some even physically trying to restrain the visibly furious striker.

As he walked off the pitch, Marega could be seen pointing his thumbs down towards the crowd, before raising his middle fingers as he forced his way down the tunnel.

Marega had netted what turned out to be the winning goal just nine minutes earlier, after which a section of Vitória fans are alleged to have targeted the 28-year-old with a series of abusive chants.

He took to Instagram after the game to call out the culprits, while also sarcastically praising the referee for failing to deal with the situation.

“I would just like to tell these idiots who come to the stadium to make racist screams … go f**k yourself,” he wrote. “And I also thank the referees for not defending me and for giving me a yellow card because I defend my skin colour. I hope I never meet you on a football field again! YOU ARE A SHAME!!!!”

Marega actually spent the 2016/17 season on loan with Vitória, netting 14 goals in 31 games, but that clearly did not stop a section of their fanbase from attacking the Mali international.
