A Lawyer and a Member of Ghana’s Normalisation Committee, Naa Odofoley Nortey says the government still interferes in Ghana’s league because there is no framework laid down to regulate the relationship between the government, FIFA, the FA and partners.

She disclosed that the authorities responsible came up with a Standard Operation Agreement in 2007 which sought to prevent government influence on the Sports Department.

According to her, Ghana has failed to join the agreement. “So, 2007, they came up with what they call Standard Operation Agreement which sought to try and harmonize or set up the framework for how to avoid sports and the government in each MA to sign up to this agreement which will therefore regulate their relationship and avoid what we are calling interference. It’s sad to say most members have, but Ghana till date we have not signed this cooperation agreement”.

In a discussion on GTV Sports+ special program ”Saving Our Passion”, Naa Odofoley Nortey revealed that FIFA recognized the need for the issue to be solved.  To her, all countries were part of the agreement except the U.K, that was part of four other agreements.

” I think FIFA itself recognizes that there is an issue that needs to be solved. It realizes that all members of FIFA are indeed countries. I think every country is a member. It is only the United Kingdom that is four in one, the rest of us are all one”.

Naa Odofoley added that the sports department was operating under laws violating the Standard Corporation Agreement.
