Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, has reiterated Government’s readiness to support the Normalization Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to succeed.
Mr. Asiamah noted that, the Government recognizes the current situation as an opportune time to make changes, that have long been associated with every facet of the game and to make it attractive for Ghanaians to patronize and enjoy their football again.
He said this when the Dr. Kofi Amoah led committee, paid a courtesy call on him, to brief him of their work since assuming office.
According to the Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua Constituency, the government was fully behind them, as they embark on the process of restoring confidence and trust in football activities in the country.
He noted that Government acknowledges the immense demonstration of dedication and valor to the course of the committee, adding that “having been very successful in your respective endeavors, I’m very confident that the Committee was very capable of delivering on their mandate to the expectations of football lovers.
The Minister noted that Ghana football has suffered some significant damage to its image and appealed to the Committee to work and overturn the fortunes of the Ghana football brand, adding that it would go a long way to attract the needed corporate support for the Game.
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Perry Curtis Okudzeto, urged the Committee to ensure that other stakeholders such as the media, who are very significant towards this agenda were involved in the process of the reformation.
Dr. Kofi Amoah expressed appreciation to the ministry for its unflinching support after the Committee was instituted by world football governing body, FIFA.
He said there were challenges ahead as a result of the huge expectations of Ghanaians, but they were determined to overcome them.
“The Committee has started engaging people who have deep understanding of the industry to be part of yet to be announced ad-hoc committees, that would work with the Committee to successfully deliver on its mandate.
“Normalization Committee is currently consulting with all appropriate stakeholders to plan a special competition as a way of engaging the clubs, whiles the statutes are reviewed together with other reforms,” he added.
The meeting was attended by Mrs. Lucy Quist, Vice President, Mrs Naa Odofoley, member as well as the Deputy General Secretaries of the GFA, Alex Asante and Emmanuel Dasobre and Dan Kwaku Yeboah, Public Relations Officer for the Normalization Committee.
