Referee Maxwell Kofi Owusu has remorsefully apologized for his mistakes in the game between Hearts of Oak and Elmina Sharks on Sunday.

The center referee unfairly awarded the Phobians a first-half penalty after a Victor Aidoo goal-bound shot hit the chest of Isaack Donkor, who was also shown the Red Card for protesting.

Hearts missed the penalty but went on to win 2-0 after the breakthrough goals from Isaac Mensah and Benjamin Afutu.

After a review of the game, the referee admitted to his mistakes.

“This was absolutely not a good decision. I’m not proud of it.  A lot of people have been hurt. I am hurt too,” the referee wrote on his Facebook page.

“Lessons learnt in the hardest possible way.

“As genuinely as this mistake might be, steps must be taken to avoid this in the future. This should never happen again. NEVER AGAIN SHOULD THIS HAPPEN!!!,” he added.

The disciplinary Committee and the referees Committee are yet to make a decision on the referees despicable performance.
