Ghana begins her hunt for glory on Thursday morning at the Arena 3, Beach Park with Karate Kata following Wednesday evening’s draw which put the West African side in group one of the male individual Karate Kata alongside Burundi, La Cote d’Ivoire, Congo, Kenya and Morocco.

The round robin event will see the top four athletes progress to the next phase before the number is pruned down to three in the final elimination round.

Team Ghana represented by Edmund Amoako Asante is poised to make a giant step towards grabbing a medal.

“The draw never put fear in me despite the pedigree of these countries in the world championship. Although, it will be very challenging, there is a huge possibility that I will go through the elimination stage and qualify for the finals. My other competitors aren’t extraordinary creatures,” Amoako Asante spoke after the draw.

Winners of both groups in the final round will meet in the finals for the gold medal whiles the runner up in group one faces the second runner up in group two and vice versa.

The other groups consist of Mauritania, Botswana, Senegal, Guinea, Algeria and host Cape Verde.

Ghana’s participation in this competition was made possible by timely financial assistance from Ashfoam Ghana Limited, Toyota Ghana Limited, Republic Bank and Allied Oil.
