Solomon Akumba wins Maltavator challenge

A level 300 student of the KNUST, Solomon Baba Akumba has emerged as the overall winner of the Ghana’s leading obstacle challenge course competition dubbed “Maltavator Challenge Season Two” when the grand finale was held on Saturday at the Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra.

Ten (10) athletes were selected each from the series of events held in Accra, Takoradi, Kumasi and Tamale- totaling forty (40) contestants who featured in the event with the aim selecting six (6) finalists to represent Ghana at the Pan African Championship in South Africa.

The colorful event saw Solomon winning the ultimate prize whiles Samuel Osei Mensah grabbing the runners’ up position. Samuel Gyeta finished 3rd, Daniel Abotsi landed the 4th place berth whereas Richard Kuevorme and Precious Appiah picked 5th and 6th positions respectively.

“The competition wasn’t easy. All of us were motivated by the opportunity to compete internationally and that alone was to tell you how difficult it was. Now we the six of us have become a team going to Johannesburg. We will make sure we work hard as a team to make a very huge impact in South Africa”. The winner of the Maltavator Challenge Season Two Solomon Baba Akumba told reporters.

Ghana is expected in South Africa to participate in the Pan African Championship when competition is staged on February 24, 2019 with countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Cameroon and Cote D’Ivoire for the ultimate prize of $20,000.

“We are happy and we shall be more fulfilled if we are able to get Ghanaian winning the ultimate in South Africa which comes with cash prize of $20,000. This competition has tested our patrons physically and mentally which is symbolic of challenges we face in our daily lives before achieving greatness”. The first prize winner walked home with GHC5,000 before second prize winner was given GHC3,000. The second runners up pocketed GHC2,000 and the last three winners were given compensation prizes.
