Premier club Teshie Akro Beach Soccer Club have been crowned champions of the 2019 Homowo Beach Soccer Festival in Accra.
The Teshie base club recorded a 4-3 win over Tema Beach Soccer club in the finals of the 8 team tournament held at the Laboma beach under the auspices Beach Sports Consult.
The annual competition which is aimed at observing the Homowo festival after 3 years’ absence attracted huge personalities including the former Municipal Chief Executive of La Dadekotopon Hon Odoley Sowah to grace the occasion.
According to organizing secretary of Beach Sports Consult Nii Sackey Narh, his outfit intends to spread their tentacles in the coming years.
“We are happy and will describe proceedings as a success. It’s been challenging but I think my colleagues helped in executing the job decently. In the subsequent years, we shall be spreading our wings to cover other sporting disciplines to make it grand”.
Former MCE of La Dadekotopon Hon Odoley Sowah expressed her delight and charged corporate agencies to come to the aide of beach soccer towards the development of arena to massively develop the sport which will encourage ladies to participate.
“It has been very exciting and I’m happy to be here. This isn’t my first time watching this game. I think they need sponsorship and I’m calling on all the organizations to help develop the game. When we are able to develop the beach we will be able to fully tap into the benefits this environment offers”.
National team striker Alexander Adjei who led his side Teshie Akro Beach SC to win the ultimate trophy was adjudged best player whiles his overall 7 goals helped him grab the top scorer accolade. In the same team, Gideon Adjei ran away with the best goalkeeper award and Ada Assurance got the fair play team award.
