FIFA President Gianni Infantino has thanked 2022 World Cup Host Qatar for bringing unity to the world by hosting the biggest football showpiece. He was grateful to Qatar for welcoming the rest of the world to the Arab world by describing the tournament as the best ever in the history of the competition.
“What you have done to welcome the world is unbelievable and everyone felt at home. Your gesture of welcoming fans and the 32 teams from various continents to participate and to witness the games has shown that the world has embarrassed the world cup and we have seen the unity football has brought to the world.”
Speaking on off-the-pitch issues the Fifa president said “we have used the power of football in the projection of the world cup to tackle discrimination, promote sustainability, to ensure our children are protected and to have access to education”
On the performance of the 32 teams Infantino said it was the first time ever teams from all the continent have reached the knockout stage of the global tournament.
He added that there is a lot to look forward to in 2023 as New Zealand and Australia co-host the women’s FIFA world cup 2023.
He concluded by congratulating the eventual winners Argentina, France for placing second, Croatia for coming third and Morocco for picking the fourth position.
He also thanked everyone for making the 2022 world cup success.
