Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Upper West Youth Resource Center in Wa would be completed and handed over for use in April later this year after several months of delay.

The construction of the facility was supposed to span a total of 9 months after the sod cutting ceremony by the Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah in May 2018.

Speaking to the GBC, the Contractor and Managing Director of Habkay Enterprise Limited, Hadih Bin Salih, said the delays were due to major structural changes in the initial plan of the facility. He added that there were some difficulties in demolishing some structures that were constructed in the early 1950s.

The Upper West Youth Resource centre in Wa when completed will boast of 3 regular stands and an additional VIP stand. The facility will also have a multi-purpose indoor sports centre fitted with gyms, change rooms and IT centre.

There is also expected to be a restaurant and an open-air convertible space for outdoor programmes.

Speaking to the GBC, the Contractor and Managing Director of Habkay Enterprise Limited, Hadih Bin Salih said work is far advanced and all things being equal, the entire facility will be completed by April 2020.

Mr Bin Salih mentioned that some major works to be done are the grassing of the field, constructing of drains and roofing of the VIP stand.

The Consultant’s Clerk of Works on Site, Collins Ngmenkpeo Dery, said work is around 72 percent complete with the remaining work being light fitting and minimal physical work. Mr Dery said he is impressed with the quality of work at the Upper West Youth Resource Center.
