Volta FA proposes January 2023 for commencement of Division Two League Season

The Volta Regional Football Association, (VRFA) has proposed January 22, 2023, as the commencement date for the upcoming 2022/23 Volta Regional Division Two League season. The date was proposed at the Ordinary Session of Congress on Thursday, December 22, 2022, in Ho, the Volta regional capital.

The Ordinary Session of Congress is usually held ahead of the commencement of a footballing season.

The Ghana FA Statutes provides that “Congress shall meet in an Ordinary Session once every football season, usually before the commencement of said season”.

In attendance was the Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Daniel Sarpie, the Volta Regional Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG), Listowel Zilevu, the former chairman of the VRFA, Francis Dogbatse, and members of the Regional Executive Council.

Others include District Chairmen, Club owners, and stakeholders of the football fraternity in the region.

The VRFA Chairman, Daniel Agbogah in his keynote address to Congress congratulated congressmen for their unwavering support and commitment during the 2021/22 League season and  challenged the District FAs to build a solid foundation of the game from the districts.

He lauded the media for their coverage and good publicity during the 2021/22 league season which projected the league for huge patronage and applause across the country and beyond.

Mr. Agbogah further disclosed that, the Marketing and Branding of the Volta Regional Division Two league saw a massive improvement in the year under review.

“I must say that the Publicity, Marketing, and Branding of the Volta Regional Division 2 League saw a massive improvement last season and we must applaud the media for a good job,” He said.

He called on clubs and stakeholders to continue to support the administration and shun pockets of violence, which were recorded at a few venues during the 2021/22 league season.

The Volta Regional Director of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Daniel Sarpei who raised concerns about the Volta/Oti Regions not having a Ghana Premier League team, implored clubs to employ the services of qualified coaches and technical men to help develop our games.

The Volta Regional Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG), Mr. Listowel Zilevu echoed the need for revised remuneration for match officials, adequate security at match venues, and refresher courses and training of Referee Instructors to retrain other referees in the districts

The former VRFA Chairman, Francis Dogbatse advised stakeholders to build an amicable relationship with one another and not relent in the development of football which has a bright future.

 “let’s establish a cordial relationship between club owners and our leaders for a common goal of developing football, Volta/Oti football has a bright future,” Mr. Dogbatse stated.

Meanwhile, nine Divisions Three Clubs have been promoted from the nine District Football Associations, while eight clubs who took part in the 2021/2022  League season got relegated.
