The senior national team’s head coach, Charles K. Akonnor, has stated that they cannot punish goalkeeper Razak Abalora for his error against Morocco, but rather urge him to develop.
Last Tuesday, Abalora’s error cost the Atlas Lions of Morocco a lone goal victory.
Coach Akonnor suggested in a post-game interview that the goalkeeper should be praised rather than chastised.
“He made a blunder. We are not in a position to murder him since he is aware of himself.
“Everyone must be performing at a high level. Yes, we must move forward and encourage him. He is an excellent goalkeeper. There’s no doubt about that.
“In the first half, we made things really difficult for them, and in the second half, we opened up and attacked. The negative aspect of our performance was that we lost, but there were many positives.
We have a few guys that want to join us, and if we can get all of them and work together like this, I think we have a good chance going forward,” he continued.
On Saturday, June 12, Ghana will face the Elephants of Cote D’ Ivoire at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
