The Chairman of the Ghana Beach Soccer Union, Yaw Kusi Gyamfi Awere, has appealed to Business owners and investors especially in the Oil Fields from the Volta region to support the development of Beach Soccer in the region.
He said the National Beach Soccer team, the Black Sharks has more than seven(7) players from the Volta region yet the regional clubs lack financial support and the necessary push.
Mr. Kusi Gyamfi made the appeal at the just ended two-day Beach Soccer Union Cup 2021 tournament in Keta, Volta region.
“When we talk about Beach Soccer you can’t take Volta region out, for the first time in the national team, we have more than 7 to 8 players from the Volta region” he said.
“It looks like they are not getting help, I am appealing to the businessmen in the Volta region.”
“When you look at the oil field, about 50-60 percent of the company are from the Volta region, if they can come on board to help the region, I think Beach Soccer can reach the highest level in the region” Mr. Kusi Gyamfi added.
The tournament was organized by the leadership of newly formed Executives of Beach Soccer Club Union dubbed “CAL Bank Beach Soccer Union Cup 2021”
The Union Cup was aimed at promoting the development of Beach Soccer along the coastal areas of the country.
“ Forming the unions will enable the regions to have a strong beach soccer team so we can be playing these Cup now and then,” Mr. Kusi Gyamfi said.
The Union which has a five-member executive was formed in August this year with Yaw Kusi Gyamfi Awere as the Chairman, Dzidodo Ruben Adjahoe as Vice-chairman, Nana Poku Amankwah as Secretary, Fifii Davies as Treasurer, and Mark Sana, member.
Eight elite Beach Soccer clubs across Ghana took part in the event at one of the best tourist beach hubs in the country, the Emancipation Beach in Keta.
The eight clubs which were grouped in two had Keta Sunset Sports, Ada Assurance, Nungua BSC, and Layoca BSC in Group A while Group B had Kedzie Mighty Warriors BSC, Vodza Iron Breakers, Sea Sharks, and Teshie United.
All eight clubs competed as one of Volta’s topmost clubs, Havedzi Mighty Warriors emerged winners of the maiden Beach Soccer Union Cup 2021.
The next edition and host of the Beach Soccer Union Cup will soon be announced.
