39 clubs confirm participation in StarTimes Invitational Tourney

The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has said 39 clubs have confirmed in the participation in the maiden edition of the StarTimes Invitational Tournament.

The 39 clubs include 14 Ghana Premier League (GPL) and 25 Division One clubs.

Information gathered indicates that the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Tuesday received a confirmation from 39 clubs from both the Premier and Division One League, who declared their readiness to feature in the tournament.

Further information indicates that, defending GPL champions Aduana Stars and former champions Wa All Stars could not file a response yesterday, with 23 division one league sides also failing to confirm their participation.

Officials of GHALCA are expected to fashion out the modalities and format of the tournament and announce it at the formal launch of the tournament slated for Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

However, it’s unlikely the tournament would commence on the scheduled date due to the short notice, as some clubs who have already planned friendly matches during the same period.

The tournament, according to GHALCA is to keep  clubs active, following a break in football activities, after the expose’ by Anas Amereyaw Anas which revealed widespread corrupt and bribery practices.
