Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has revealed that the National Investigative Bureau is currently preparing a detailed investigative report into the $245 million expenditure linked to Ghana’s hosting of the All African Games from March 4 to March 23, 2024.

The report, which also covers other high-profile oral cases including the “mathematical sets” and “drip” scandals, is expected to reach his office in a few weeks, marking a significant step toward legal scrutiny and potential prosecution.

Dr. Ayine explained that the investigative report will lay the groundwork for filing charges, signaling the government’s commitment to addressing concerns about financial irregularities in the hosting of the games.

The $245 million budget has drawn extensive public and parliamentary attention, particularly due to its breakdown: about $195 million was spent on infrastructure, $15 million on feeding athletes, and $48 million on operational costs such as transportation and logistics. These figures have spurred debates on accountability and transparency in managing national event funds.

This investigation is part of a broader governmental drive to promote financial integrity and combat corruption, particularly with the establishment of initiatives like Operation Retrieve All Loot (ORAL). Dr. Ayine’s office intends to prosecute cases linked to public fund mismanagement decisively.

The anticipated investigative report will not only provide clarity on alleged malpractices but also reinforce the commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in public expenditure management for Ghana’s major national events.

  1. This is in the right direction and very imperetive to the taxpayer.
We the tax payers are very aggressive and can no longer wait to see people involved in these acts brought to face the full biting of the laws of Ghana.
