This year’s Dagaaba-Frafra friendly games will be held on September 6 at El-Wak Stadium, starting at 8 a.m. The event aims to promote unity and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of both tribes.

In an interview on GTV Sports+, representatives of the Dagaaba and Frafra ethnic groups revealed that the winning team will receive a puppy (dog) as a trophy.

According to Frafra representative Dennis Akugre, the puppy symbolises a historical event where the two ethnicities went hunting and caught only one dog. They decided to divide the dog to avoid conflict, with the Frafra wanting to boil theirs and the Dagaaba wanting to roast theirs.

However, the head of the dog was nowhere to be found, and this incident has become a symbol of their unity and understanding.

“The head of the dog, which was never found, has become a powerful symbol of our ability to resolve conflicts and work together,” Dennis Akugre explained.

Dagaaba representative Gordon Wellu added that the games serve as a platform for renewing social ties, fostering friendships, and promoting cultural exchange.

“The event has also strengthened inter-tribal relationships, enabling the communities to resolve disputes amicably,” he stressed.

The games will feature a range of activities, including football, sack races, volleyball, and egg-and-spoon races. The event is expected to draw the presence of high-profile dignitaries, including the president, the speaker of parliament, the former vice-president, ministers, members of parliament, the chief, and many more.
