GFA apologises to Ghanaians for Black Stars failure to qualify for AFCON 2025

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has apologised to Ghanaians for the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The GFA released a statement on the 21st of November, 2024, acknowledging the disappointment and frustration of fans, admitting that the team’s performance fell short of expectations. The association thanked supporters for their unwavering loyalty during the qualifiers.

Following this setback, the GFA’s Executive Council has taken key actions to address the situation:

Dissolution of Management Committee: The Black Stars’ Management Committee has been disbanded, with gratitude expressed to its members for their service.

Review with Coach Otto Addo: A meeting has been scheduled with Head Coach Otto Addo on November 27 to discuss his technical report and assess the team’s performance under his leadership.

Ghana Football Retreat Announced: In response to public concern, the GFA will host a Ghana Football Retreat on November 28 at the Ghanaian Soccer Centre of Excellence. This gathering aims to gather insights from various stakeholders, including former players, captains, and coaches, Sports-related professionals like medics, marketers, and economists Institutions such as the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), National Sports Authority, and Ministries of Sports, Finance, and Education

The retreat will focus on creating a roadmap to improve the Black Stars and other national teams.

The GFA expressed gratitude for the patience and support of Ghanaians, promising to work towards better outcomes in the future.
