The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has named former Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum as the new head coach of the Ghana U17 national team, the Black Starlets. The appointment, announced on Monday, July 28, takes effect immediately as the team prepares for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U17 Boys Championship in Nigeria.
Ogum replaces Coach Frimpong Manso, who recently led Bibiani Gold Stars to a historic Ghana Premier League title. Manso will now focus exclusively on his club duties as Gold Stars prepare for their maiden campaign in the CAF Champions League.
The GFA expressed gratitude for Manso’s dedication to youth football during his tenure with the Black Starlets. In addition to managing the U17 team, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has been appointed as the new Head of Coach Education at the GFA. This role had been held by Desmond Ofei, who will now concentrate fully on his responsibilities as assistant coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The dual appointment signals Ghana’s commitment to strengthening both youth development and coaching standards across all levels of its football structure. Ogum’s experience with top clubs like Asante Kotoko is expected to bring fresh energy and expertise to the nation’s promising young talents.
