Queiroz’s short-term contract expired after the World Cup, and while the GFA wants him to stay, any new deal must be approved and paid for by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. Asante Twum said he could not confirm details of the proposed contract or whether there are outstanding payments owed to the 73-year-old Portuguese.
Salary dispute clouds talks
Media reports claim Queiroz is asking for about $150,000 a month, up from roughly $80,000, and that the GFA and ministry have rejected that demand. Other stories suggest the GFA is already preparing to hire a new coach if an agreement cannot be reached.
Ofei seen as Plan B
If Queiroz leaves, assistant Desmond Ofei is widely tipped to lead the Black Stars for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers starting in September, though some officials argue against promoting him to the senior role.
