The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to convene its 31st Ordinary Congress today at 11 a.m. at the E.T. Mensah Hall of the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

This annual event will bring together delegates representing all 124 members of the Congress to discuss crucial issues concerning the governance of football in Ghana.

Among the most significant agenda items is a proposal to extend the presidential term limit from the current two terms to three terms, a reform that has reportedly been approved by FIFA and aligns with statutes of both FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This amendment would allow a president to serve up to 12 years, mirroring global football governance norms and potentially reshaping the leadership landscape in Ghanaian football.

In addition to term limit considerations, other important discussion points include enhancing gender representation at the highest levels of the GFA. These reforms signal a bid to modernize and strengthen the organizational structure and inclusivity within Ghana’s football administration.

Despite the weighty reforms on the table, the GFA has decided to bar live media coverage of the Congress proceedings, a move that has sparked public interest and debate.

The Congress, mandated by Article 31(2) of the GFA Statutes (2019), is held annually before the start of the football season to review progress, present financial and activity reports, and set future strategic directions for Ghanaian football.

The gathering is expected to be an influential forum shaping the future trajectory of football governance in Ghana.
