The Black Stars defeated Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium by 1-0, becoming the fifth African nation to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This win puts Ghana alongside North African heavyweights Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Algeria as Africa’s representatives on the global stage. Ghana is the first West African country to join these giants in the tournament.

The solitary goal came early in the second half as Mohammed Kudus scored in the 47th minute. Kudus finished off a brilliant assist from captain Thomas Partey, breaking the deadlock and igniting celebrations among the home fans.

The goal proved decisive in an intense and tightly contested qualifying match. In the 75th minute, the Black Stars manager executed a triple substitution to inject fresh energy into the side.

Mohammed Kudus, Kwasi Sibo, and Alidu Seidu were replaced by Caleb Yirenkyi, Joseph Paintsil, and debutant Kojo Peprah Oppong. This strategic change aimed to consolidate Ghana’s lead and maintain their advantage in front of their home crowd.

Later in the 86th minute, a double switch saw Brandon Thomas-Asante and Christopher Bonsu Baah come on for Jordan Ayew and Antoine Semenyo, further shoring up the team’s defense while keeping fresh legs on the pitch.

Despite strong pressure from Comoros late in the game, Ghana held firm to secure a famous victory. With this qualification, Ghana proudly represents West Africa in the upcoming World Cup, joining a powerful quartet from North Africa.

The Black Stars will now prepare for the world’s biggest football tournament, carrying the hopes of millions across the continent.
