Black Queens midfielder Chantelle Louise Boye-Hlorkah expressed immense joy after playing a key role in Ghana’s commanding 4-1 victory over Tanzania in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The win, achieved on Monday, July 14, 2025 at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, marked Ghana’s first triumph of the tournament following a rocky start that included a 2-0 loss to South Africa and a 1-1 draw with Mali.

Boye-Hlorkah, who scored one of the goals and earned the Woman of the Match award, reflected positively on her performance and role within the team.

“Today, I was in a comfortable role. I like the wing, but I like being involved more in my natural position. I am glad to have played a little bit everywhere. A more familiar role for myself. I am so happy,” she said after the game.

The England-born midfielder, who debuted for Ghana in this tournament, was quick to share credit for the victory with her teammates and head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren. “The award could have been given it to any of my teammates. I want to thank the coach for playing me in this position, my teammates and the staff for the support,” she added.

Ghana’s attacking force was on full display as goals from Princella Adubea, Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu, and Boye-Hlorkah sealed the emphatic win. This result lifted the Black Queens to second place in Group C and guaranteed them a place in the quarterfinals of the competition.

Now, with momentum on their side, Ghana looks ahead to a crucial knockout match against Algeria on Saturday, July 19, at the Stade Municipal de Berkane. Kickoff is set for 17:00 GMT as the Black Queens aim to continue their impressive run in the WAFCON tournament.
