2022 KIRIN Cup: Black Stars earn $50,000 for placing third

The Senior National Team, Black Stars, gained an amount of $50,000 in the just ended Kirin Cup which was staged in Japan. The Black Stars lost 4-1 against Japan and won 3-2 on penalties against Chile.

The Kirin cup is a 4 nation tournament organised in Japan by the Kirin Brewery Company. Ghana, Chile and Tunisia joined Japan for the 2022 edition which was held on 10 and 14 June 2022. Tunisia won the tournament after fighting off competition from Chile and Japan.

The Stars used the tournament to fine-tune the squad ahead of the Qatar 2022 World Cup and 2023 AFCON. Coach Otto Addo had the opportunity to use a number of players to check how they may fit into the final squad at the Mundial.

Goalkeeper Abdul Manf’s heroics in the last game against Chile saw him save two penalties. According to reactions on social media, he has booked a place in the squad.
