Australian driver Oscar Piastri has taken the lead in the Formula One world championship after winning the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Sunday, April 20, 2025. Piastri’s third win in five races has put him ahead of McLaren teammate Lando Norris, who finished fourth. The victory marked an important milestone for Piastri, making him the first Australian to lead the championship since Mark Webber in 2010.
Piastri’s win was a testament to his skill and consistency, having also won the Bahrain and China Grands Prix earlier this season. He demonstrated exceptional driving ability and strategy, outmaneuvering his competitors to claim the top spot on the podium. Max Verstappen, the four-time world champion, finished second after starting from pole position, while Charles Leclerc secured Ferrari’s first podium of the campaign with a third-place finish.
Lando Norris, Piastri’s teammate, had a challenging weekend after crashing in qualifying, which left him starting in 10th place. Despite a strong drive, Norris couldn’t quite catch up to Piastri, finishing fourth and now trailing his teammate by 10 points in the championship standings. Norris will need to regroup and focus on the next race to regain ground in the championship.
The Formula One world championship is heating up, with Piastri’s lead marking a significant shift in the standings. Piastri’s back-to-back wins have put him in a strong position, but Norris and other contenders will be looking to close the gap. The championship promises to be an intense battle, with several talented drivers vying for the top spot.
Piastri’s momentum shows no signs of slowing down, and he’ll look to build on his success in the upcoming races. With his skill and determination, Piastri is poised to make a strong push for the championship title. As the season unfolds, fans can expect thrilling racing and intense competition among the top drivers.
