Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George has called for a complete disbandment of Ghana’s senior national football team and the dissolution of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the Black Stars’ 4-2 defeat to The Gambia.
Ghana surrendered a two-goal advantage at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, suffering a second consecutive defeat in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ernest Nuamah opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Felix Afena-Gyan doubled Ghana’s lead.
The Gambia, however, fought back before half-time and completed the turnaround in the second half to secure all three points.
The result followed Ghana’s 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening Group C fixture, leaving the Black Stars without a point from their first two matches.
Ghana had also missed out on qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, increasing pressure on the team as it seeks a return to the continental tournament.
As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for 2 years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts but the patch work is worse. Cheers. 🦁🇬🇭 https://t.co/33SPLNyjSK

Reacting to questions on X following Tuesday’s defeat, Mr George, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, called for fundamental changes to the country’s football administration and the national team.
“As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for two years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts, but the patchwork is worse. Cheers,” he wrote.
His comments come as Ghana’s qualification campaign faces an early setback, with the team now needing to recover from two defeats in its opening two matches.
The Black Stars are scheduled to face Somalia in their next AFCON 2027 qualifying fixtures as they continue their campaign for a place at the tournament, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
