In  Ghana today, soccer betting has become the major source of income for many people especially the youth although most of them often lose in the betting.
Addiction to betting has become the norm as many believe it is a lucrative business. Others also believe the growth in sports betting has made a lot of the youth unproductive.
Sports betting began more than two thousand years ago when the Greeks introduced the Olympics to the world.
Early records show betting on athletic competitions which spread to ancient Rome.
Football pools have been a  popular way to try winning some money across the world. This has led to many Ghanaians patronising soccer betting.
Some have expressed concern about the manner in which the youth are getting involved in the betting, which prevents them from seeking meaningful jobs and working effectively.
Jonathan is a regular better. Jonathan advised the youth not to get involved in betting since once hooked, it is difficult to let go. He said many end up stealing to support their acquired habit.

Critics of soccer betting maintain it ruins the prospects of the youth instead of moulding their capacity to become responsible citizens.
