Fast track extension of internet service to deprived communities

The President of the Presbyterian University College, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Addo Obeng has appealed to government to extend internet service to every locality of the country to encourage home learning.

The provision of such facility, he suggested should be a collaboration between government and industries since ICT infrastructure is expensive.

He made the appeal when he addressed the 14th congregation of the University at Kwahu-Abetifi in the Eastern Region.

A total of 603 graduands from the various programmes of the University were awarded degrees, Diplomas, and certificates.

Out of the figure, 109 of the students made up of 51 males and 58 females had first class, 227 obtained second class upper, while 237 got second class lower, with 20 obtaining third class and pass.

The President of the Presbyterian University College, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Addo Obeng, who is also the Board Chairman of GBC said, to make online programmes effectively, tertiary institutions should develop and implement proactive and innovative policies that will ensure that all students and staff have personal computers, laptops, tablets or access to institutional ICT appliances.

He further stated that the availability of such appliances will make online teaching and learning easy and meaningful and ensure that e-Learning becomes en-grained in the academic structure of institutions.

He commended government for supporting the school during the COVID-19 pandemic but emphasised that government should not wait for a pandemic to strike before extending help to the private Universities.

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Rt. Rev. Prof Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante congratulated the graduands for their achievement and urged them to be ambassadors of peace before, during and after this year’s general elections.

He advised them not to allow themselves to be used by any politician to cause mayhem during the elections. The overall best student went to Mr. Elisha Baafi Oduro.
