Ghana will host the first Africa Data Protection and Privacy Conference from June 26 to June 27 in Accra to promote Africa’s drive for data protection and privacy laws. The conference according to the Executive Director of the Data Protection Commission, Patricia Adusei-Poku, will focus on contemporary national and global issues such as the alignment between privacy and the right to information, third party contractors and the safeguarding of national databases, and the pace of digitization and the security of personal data.

She told a cross section of the media in Accra that hosting the international conference reaffirms government commitment to securing the privacy of citizens as the country scales up its digitization efforts as part of the national transformational agenda to position Ghana as a gateway to Africa.

She said about one thousand local and international personalities and institutions have confirmed their participation in the conference.

Ms Adusei-Poku highlighted the nine thematic areas that the two-day conference will be focusing on in the roadmap towards promoting the enactment of Data Protection and Privacy laws in Africa.
