Research have shown that women in African communities are 50 percent less likely to be on the internet than men.

Briefing the media ahead of the second Africa Summit on Women and Girls in Technology, Deputy Communications Minister, Vincent Odotei Sowah, said the situation where 75 percent of Africa’s population remain offline is not acceptable.

He reiterated that government’s commitment to bridge the digital Gender gap in the country.

The Second Africa Summit on Women and Girls in Technology would provide a platform where relevant issues relating to ICT and digitalisation will be explored, with focus on development policies to advance women’s rights and digital entrepreneurship.

The Executive Director, Alliance for Affordable Internet, Sonia Jorge, stressed that as the world strives to reach 50 percent connectivity, the summit would design solutions that will enable millions of Africa women and girls to benefit from access to technology and use their skills to build a better Africa.

The second Africa Summit on Women and Girls in Technology is slated for the 9th to 11th of this month in Accra.
