The National Information Technology Agency (NITA) says this year’s National ICT Week celebration will focus on building trust in digital trade and ensuring consumer protection as Ghana strengthens its digital economy.

Speaking in an interview on the GTV Breakfast Show on Thursday, August 14, the NITA team said the celebration was designed to highlight Ghana’s digital journey and address challenges in the online space.

“ICT Week is one of Ghana’s biggest platforms where innovators, policymakers and businesses meet to shape the future of our digital economy. This year, the focus is on digital trade and how we transact securely online,” said Ernestina Atsutse, NITA’s manager for business services.

The team emphasised that consumer trust is a key concern. “We’ve all heard stories of ‘what I ordered versus what I got.’ Beyond that, when issues arise, where do consumers turn? This is why NITA is stepping up to enforce standards and protect both buyers and service providers,” said Florence Adzayao, NITA’s head of corporate affairs.

Highlighting Ghana’s progress, Emmanuel Ampofo, NITA’s manager for technical services, pointed to projects such as the Eastern Corridor Fibre Project and initiatives like Girls in ICT and One Million Coders, which he said were expanding access nationwide. “The government’s vision is digital-first and leaving no one behind, whether young or old, rural or urban, everyone must come on board,” he added.

The National ICT Week celebration will run from August 25 to 28, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre, featuring discussions on e-commerce, digital payments, logistics, data use, and the launch of the African PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) Consortium to boost cybersecurity in trade.
