The 2024 GHALCA President’s Cup takes a new spin as Ghana football giant Kumasi Asante Kotoko will be taking on Ivorian powerhouse ASEC Mimosa at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

The big game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be graced by President Akufo-Addo and President Alassane Ouattara, who are both leaders of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, respectively.

This football event has seen numerous talented teams that have always represented a mark of solidarity and unity through football. The GHALCA President’s Cup is always played to pave the way for Ghana’s Independence Day celebration on March 6.

The GHALCA President’s Cup, also known as the Republic Day Celebrations Cup, is a football event held annually that seeks to bring together the two best teams at the end of the football season in Ghana to honour the President of the Republic of Ghana.

The 2023 edition of the GHALCA President’s Cup was topped by Accra Hearts of Oak, who eventually won the trophy by beating their rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko by 1-0. Asante Kotoko will be hoping to put the past behind them by changing the script against ASEC Mimosa to a good one.

Asante Kotoko will be targeting a record 9th GHALCA President’s Cup, as they currently hold 8 of them. The Porcupine Warriors will have to overcome the test of their Ivorian opponent if they indeed want to retain the trophy in Kumasi.
