By Peter Agengre

The Catholic Relief Services, CRS, a non-governmental organization has marked this year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day at Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region with a donation of 672 packs of sanitary pads and 200 books to school children.

They called for increased action and investment to ensure that women and girls are no longer limited because of their periods.

The selected boys and girls were from resource-poor backgrounds from the Talensi, Bolgatanga Central, Bolgatanga East and East Mamprusi Districts who have limited access to the basic material needed for menstrual management.

They drew the awareness of the general public to the day through a float on the principal streets of Bolgatanga.

Founder of Naa Adole Foundation, Theodora Abaka Acquaah implored corporate organizations to always add sanitary pads whenever they are making donations to the public.

The broad smiles on the faces of the boys and girls brought fulfillment to CRS and its team as the country Representative Mr. Daniel Mumuni encouraged them to appreciate the need for good hygiene practices and to do away with misconceptions of menstruation.

He urged parents to improve the nutrition of their children to reduce heavy bleeding in girls.

CRS used the opportunity to call on the government to review the 20 percent tax levy on sanitary pads.

The children were given some packets of books, beverages and boxes of sanitary pads after a quiz competition.
