ECG disconnects GRA, KFC, Ho Airport, others from power grid

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Volta Region has disconnected some customers on the first day of the company’s nationwide revenue mobilization exercise which begun on 20 March,2020.
The exercise which took place in all eleven districts of the company in Volta and Oti region saw officials from the company visit customers like Volta serene, Abutia stone quarry, UHAS, HTU who owed electricity bills.
The company has disconnected KFC for owing 68,000, Ho Airport for owing 63,000, GRA Office for owing 55,000, CEPS training academy for owing 80,000 and Ho Technical University for owing 402,000. However, Ho technical university paid 200,000 after crunch talks with the ECG and have been told to settle the arrears by end of March
The exercise also saw some companies make payment like the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) who paid 1 million Cedis out of GHC1.400,000. The company has told the university to settle the remaining 400,000 Cedis by next week.
The company is embarking on this revenue mobilization drive to retrieve a debt of 5.7 billion Cedis nationwide which customers in the Volta region owe about 292 million Cedis.
The company is set to visit Ho teaching Hospital, National Communications Authority among others to retrieve about 5 million Cedis within the Ho municipality.
“We want customers to prioritize the payment of bills and this will enable us collect more revenue to keep the power sector operating.”
The company is appealing to all customers to make payment before the disconnection team visits their premises.
Customers can make payment at any bank or through mobile money. Customers can also pay by dialing *226# or by downloading the ECG PowerApp.
