Former President Mahama eulogises Ama Ata Aidoo

Former President John Mahama says he owes his inspiration for writing his book, ”My First Coup D’etat” to the late Prolific Poet, Ama Ata Aidoo.

Mr Mahama captured his views as he wrote in a Social Media post,  ”Aunt Ama Ata Aidoo was the candle, and I have had the privilege of being one of the millions of mirrors across the globe that reflected the light that she, as the prime source, inspired and freely gifted the world”.

For Mr. Mahama, Ama Ata Aidoo’s Literature books were not only an inspiration to Ghanaians and Africans in General, but they transcended the Continent.

”Her literary works read like a primer: they were on the lips and ingrained in the minds of every school-going boy or girl in Secondary School”.

“Among her classic works, ‘The Dilemma of a Ghost’ and ‘Changes’ were two of my favorites”, John Mahama writes in a Facebook post.

Mr. John Mahama and some NDC fraternity were among mourners who bid fare-well to the late Literary icon whose funeral, held at the Fore Court of the State House on July 13, 2023, was graced with attendance of Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo Addo and other government functionaries.

Ama Ata Aidoo was 81.
