I will operate an open door policy – Paga DCE

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s nominee as the District Chief Executive for Paga in the Upper East Region, Gerard Ataogye, has been confirmed by the Assembly with 90.48 per cent yes votes.
Mr. Ataogye garnered 57 votes out of the expected 68 but two assembly members were absent and five voted against.
Mr. Ataogye said if they come together as one irrespective of their political colors, they will be able to execute the lifesaving policies put in place by the Nana-Addo led administration such as Planting for food and Jobs, Free Senior High School Education, One-Village-One-Dam and One-District-One-Factory.
He said when the policies are well executed it will help reduce unemployment, reduce rural urban drift of their young men and women and indirectly decongest their cities because their brothers and sisters will come back home to make good use of the opportunities in the area.
Mr. Ataogye noted that their ecology is under threat due to uncontrolled bush burning, stressing that pragmatic measure should be put in place to stop these life threatening acts and green their environment.
He said youth unemployment is one major problem that requires attention, adding that the problem is not just an economic problem it has greatly become a serious security issue in the area and must be looked into will all the seriousness it deserves.
He underscored the need to promote agriculture and rural industries by taking advantage of existing policies in this direction.
Mr. Ataogye said most of the communities in the area lack portable drinking water. He said since water is life, it has to be provided with the limited resources at their disposal.
He said it is a known fact that the road infrastructure linking their communities is not the best.
He said it is an issue his outfit will consider especially linking farmlands to market centres.
Mr. Ataogye said as the District Security Committee Chairman, innovative measures be put in place to nib crime in the bud.
Mr. Ataogye commended the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to operate an open door policy.
