Kasoa BSP to propel power supply to Kasoa and environs

Kasoa and its environs will be witnessing stability in supply of power with the official commissioning of the Kasoa Bulk Supply Point, Kasoa BSP which is the second-largest in the country after the Pokuase Bulk Station Point.

The 50-million-dollar project, which is under the Millennium Development Authority, MIDA Compact Two, will supply electricity to about 250,000 people in Kasoa, Senya Breku, Bawjiase, Nyanyano, Tuba and Tokuse.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who inaugurated the project at a short ceremony in Accra said, ”the supply point will not only help improve power supply, to these areas but help GRIDCO and ECG minimize its the operational losses during incidences of grid collapses which takes time to restore’.’

He said the government is focused on ensuring equal access to power supply across the country to enhance growth and development.

The 435MVA Kasoa Bulk Supply Point was undertaken under the Millennium Development Authority Second Compact also known as the Power Compact. The US government provided $316 million as grant funds to enable MIDA to implement the Kasoa Bulk Supply Point, and the 580MVA Pokuase Bulk Supply Point which was completed last year to enhance reliability of power supply.

The Kasoa BSP is one of the few Gas Insulated Switchgear substations in the country.

Vice President Bawumia stated that the substation will help to reduce the erratic power supply and enhance the country’s overall power supply.

The Deputy Minister of Energy, Andrew Agyapa Mercer in a remark applauded the constructors for involving the knowledge of the indegines to undertake the construction of the substation.

Deputy Chief Mission at the US Embassy in Ghana, Nicole Chulick indicated that a stable power supply is key in the growth of an economy as businesses and individuals need stable power supply to go about their daily activities. She was hopeful that the Kasoa Bulk Supply will complement existing bulk supply points for sustainable power supply.

Board Chairman of MIDA, Yaa Ntiamoah Baidoo in a remark said the Kasoa station will go a long way to increase electricity supply to Kasoa and its environs.

The facility will be managed by GRIDCO and ECG.
