I am on good terms with father of my child- Mother of money ritual victim

Mother of the money ritual victim, Madam Evelyn Kemeh.

Story by Nana Ama Gyapong

Mother of the money ritual victim, Madam Evelyn Kemeh has revealed that she has a cordial relationship with her daughter’s father.

According to the woman, he takes their daughter to school and returns her home anytime he is in Ghana and even pays her fees as well.

She made this revelation on GTV’s Breakfast show in an interview with Allan Tagoe.

According to Madam Evelyn, “because he always goes for the girl, all the teachers know him, somewhere last year September when she celebrated her birthday, her father threw a party at school for her which has made the child very popular”. She further described the culprit as a calm person who is always reserved.

“We usually call each other and the last time we spoke, he explained to me that he had been involved in an accident”, she said.

She narrated how the incident occurred.

“Last Tuesday he called to tell me that his friend is abroad and wants to sew a dress and buy some shoes for my daughter and so he will come for the child at 12:00GMT on Thursday from school and confirmed if she is Yaa. After he hanged up, I sat down to think about what he had told me and later relayed the information to my daughter”. She continued by saying “sika if someone asks if you’re Yaa, what does it mean? Her daughter responded by saying then he is going to use me for money rituals which we all laughed about it”. “On Wednesday I asked some elders about a conversation I had with the man earlier and the elders also advised that on that Thursday the child should not attend school but rather be with me at the shop”. “He failed to come for the child on the said date but rather called the following day to request that they go to his friend on that day but the child insisted that on Friday’s, the teachers load them with so many assignments which she would not want to miss any but her father insisted that it was going to be a short trip”. She continued by saying “I told my child not to accept anything offered to her by her father, neither should she take off her dress when asked to and instructed her not to sleep in the car either”. After they left, I was expecting her father to call but he didn’t, I later received a call around 11:40 am and was asked where my daughter was, it was a policeman who called to inform me that she is at the police station together with her father who was taking her for money rituals”. “I ended up at Adenta police station where my daughter came to hug me and confirmed to the police that I am her mother”. “All this while, I thought my daughter was the one who shouted for people to come to her rescue due to what I had told her earlier”.

She concluded by saying “nothing has changed about my daughter, she is fine but on Sunday at church, a little child insulted her by calling her a scapegoat due to the incident that occurred”. She added that people have encouraged her daughter and herself not to worry. This comes at the back of a businessman, who allegedly attempted to use his daughter for rituals to get rich, in Accra. The suspect, Evans Oppong, 42, allegedly contacted a native priest/herbalist at Oyibi Kom to assist him to sacrifice his 11-year-old child for the ritual for money.
